GRATEFUL SHRED

After a meteoric rise from obscurity to a national touring band, Los Angeles-based Grateful Shred has made the most of its time in the spotlight. The lineup, featuring Dan Horne and Austin McCutchen alongside keyboardist Adam MacDougall, guitarist John Lee Shannon and vocalist Mikaela Davis, woke the Grateful Dead cosmos with a unique laid-back harmony driven sound. The band literally went from playing the Shakedown Street vendor area prior to Dead and Company shows to touring the United States.
The moment that sent the band’s popularity soaring is the “Busted at the Bowl” video, a YouTube video that features Shred members starting an impromptu set in the parking lot of the Hollywood Bowl before a Dead and Company show in 2017. They didn’t get too far before drawing so much attention that the police shut them down. Instantly creating Shred-cred, this was a bit of good fortune that doesn’t get past McCutchen. “We’ve been dealt some pretty good cards,” he states. “It’s been cool to roll with it and push forward and continually make stuff happen. Things have gone our way. Even that video happened magically. It was put together at the last minute, and boom!”
Grateful Shred released their first full studio album “Might As Well” on their own label- Liberty Hair Farm Records June 2025. The album resurrects tracks performed by Grateful Dead, and The Jerry Garcia Band – some well known and some deep cuts all that never received formal studio treatments. All were reengineered through Shred’s lens of sun-bleached harmonies and freewheeling improvisation. Featuring vocals from acclaimed vocalist Mikaela Davis, the project transforms archival blueprints into an indie-Americana odyssey. The project, spearheaded by bassist/producer Dan Horne, was recorded at Glendale’s UHF Studio in March 2025. Unfurling like a kaleidoscope of reimagined Dead lore, each track honors the Grateful Dead’s artistry while injecting Shred’s DNA– telepathic cohesion, pedal steel sheen, and an ironclad swinging rhythm section.
In addition to the studio release, Grateful Shred have recently launched a new series of live releases: “Dan’s Dubs”. These are hand selected Grateful Shred shows mixed and mastered by Dan Horne available on Nugs.Net.
Grateful Shred manage to channel that elusive Dead vibe uniquely, with wide-open guitar tones, effortless three-part vocal harmonies, choogling beats, and yes, plenty of tripped out, Shredded solos. The look, the sound, the atmosphere is uncanny. Far from being a historical re-enactment, Grateful Shred’s laissez faire flow infuses the band with a gentle spirit, warmth, and (dare we say it) authenticity. From their killer merch game to their eminently watchable YouTube channel, they’re clearly having a real good time spreading the love. Strangely enough, in a world overflowing with wax museum nostalgia and Deadly sentimentalism, we need the Shred, now more than ever.
Grateful Shred is: Austin McCutchen (vocals and guitar), Dan Horne (bass, pedal steel, vocals), Mikaela Davis (vocals), Adam MacDougall (keys and vocals), John Lee Shannon (guitar), Corey Rose (drums)

UNCLE KUNKEL’S ONE GRAM BAND

From left, Jake Kunkel (Percussion), Luke Walker (Guitar/Vox), Matthew Grube (Kit), , Wyatt Graham (Bass/Vox), Jon Brady (Keys/vox)
Uncle Kunkel’s One Gram Band is a high-energy funk-rock group based in Baltimore MD, delivering a wild blend of soulful grooves, eccentric lyrics, and thick, heavy jams that stir the spirit. Known for their unpredictable, no-holds-barred performances, the band has one mission: to bring something real to the stage—sonically and personally. Every show is a full-body experience, a chance for the audience to let loose, get weird, and dance. At the core of the band is a deep commitment to authenticity. They’re not afraid to laugh on stage, not afraid to lean into chaos of the unknown and push each other, and definitely not afraid to be unapologetically themselves through their instruments. Whether it’s a blissed-out jam or a full-throttle funk stomp, the music is always driven by the raw chemistry of the players and a shared love for the unexpected.
The stage is fronted by bassist Wyatt Graham and guitarist Luke Walker, whose history writing songs together has created a chemistry that the crowd can feel is true in their interactions both musically and on the mic. Alongside them, a powerfully free and funky rhythm section consisting of Jake Kunkel (Percussion) and Matthew Grube (Kit) – the flow they create is the foundational sound of the band. On keys is Baltimore favorite Jon Brady, whose careful ear and incredible sonic abilities drive the jams into the sky and deliver them safely back to the ground – his appreciation for funk, eloquent improv, and creative shredding, make for ice cold grooves that’ll make you lose your shoes.
In 2024, Uncle Kunkel’s One Gram Band released their live EP Punk Jams to streaming platforms, capturing a taste of the chaos they’re known for. As they work toward their first full-length album, their fanbase— dubbed “The Nieces & Nephews”—continues to grow, bringing together a community of like minded individuals who seek good hangs, and funky weird music to bust loose on. Join the family.
“We are most proud of our circle of amazing friends and fans whom we prefer to call The Nieces and Nephews, as they are like family to us. […] Being a team comprised of elder-Gen Z and elder-millennials, we have formed a great network of showgoers who have either been on the scene for a long time or are just discovering it. Watching everyone mingle and connect, forming small-world friendships, and dancing alongside each other is why we do this. Music is a form of unity like none other”
– Luke Waker, from “Meet Uncle Kunkel’s One Gram Band” Voyage Baltimore Magazine

KENDALL STREET COMPANY

Virginia’s Kendall Street Company are no strangers to having a wild time. The genre-fluid, eclectic rock ensemble has drawn varied comparisons to the dynamic jams of Umphrey’s McGee and Widespread Panic, songwriting prowess of John Prine, experimental psychedelia of Pink Floyd, progressive jazz-infused rock of Frank Zappa, and off-color humor of Ween and They Might Be Giants. Including elements of crowd participation, off-the-cuff comedic bits, haphazard choreography, musical improvisation, and surprise musical guests, each Kendall Street Company concert is an experience unlike any other. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry. Just remember to stay hydrated.
In addition to their reputation as must-see live performers, the Company’s prolific immunity to writer’s block has led them to release over 100 original songs between eight studio albums, three live albums, and four EPs in a period of just nine years. 2025 will see the release of (at least) an additional studio record, a handful of singles, and who knows what else! You can also enjoy a massive selection of live shows here through our direct-to-band subscription and nugs.net. These often include unreleased and improvised tracks, as well as covers ranging from the Grateful Dead to DEVO, to Alanis Morisette, to Soulja Boy, to Cake, to Mapache, to Billie Eilish, to really whatever we might be listening to. With a full in-ear monitor and multitrack recording rig, the band continues to capture the moments that mean the most to fans.
Kendall Street Company is: Louis Smith [Rhythm Guitar/Lead Vox], Brian Roy [Bass], Ryan Wood [Drums], Ben Laderberg [Lead Guitar], and Jake Vanaman [Saxophone/Keys]. The five met at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, where they graduated between 2015 and 2020. For such a young band, their accomplishments are commendable. They have performed at festivals including LOCKN’, Summer Camp, High Sierra, Resonance, Floydfest, Hulaween, Peach Fest, Northlands, and Rooster Walk. The band has been joined on stage and in the studio by the likes of Keller Williams, Ron Holloway, Andy Thorn, Sawborg Destructo (GWAR), and Andy Hall. The Company has also opened for many of the greats in the scene, sharing the stage with Goose, Umphrey’s McGee, Papadosio, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Leftover Salmon, the Infamous Stringdusters, Big Something, and Melvin Seals & JGB.

THE FITZKEE BROTHERS

A Story Steeped in Rhythm
“Fitzkee Brothers” is a three to four-piece band led by a group of two brothers (Drew & Alex) who are amazing singers, songwriters and musicians. George Porter Jr said, “They’re comin’ for ya.’” after a hearing them play and Post Malone called them, “The mini f-cking Allman Brothers”. Nicknamed the “Thump Brothers” for their tight & funky rhythm section, they have been amazing audiences with their killer live performances ever since December of 2018 when they took the stage at their first full band rock show at Dogfish Head Brewing & Eats in Rehoboth Beach, DE. They never looked back, playing their style of high-energy jam band rock with a funky feel and distinct pocket almost constantly before intimate and large audiences in DE, MD, DC, VA, WV, PA, CT, MS, OH, TX, GA, FL, NJ & NY. The Brothers serve as mobile ambassadors of the Roots Rock Revival camp founded by Butch Trucks, Oteil Burbridge and Luther Dickinson.
The Brothers have had the privilege to play with many great musicians including Post Malone, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, Oteil Burbridge, George Porter Jr, Devon Allman, Duane Betts, Luther Dickinson, Robert Randolph, Bobby Lee Rodgers, Vaylor and Melody Trucks, Junior Mack, Melvin Seals, Ron Holloway, and Joe Marcinek, .
The Fitzkee Brothers’ sound has matured and evolved over the years from an “in your face” punk rock to a soulful, funky brand of rock & roll. The Brothers’ single “Give You All My Love” has topped 115k YouTube views and 145k Spotify streams since October 2023! “Lakesong” is currently on the “Modern Jam Band” Spotify editorial playlist and has 73k YouTube views and 45k Spotify streams. Both were recorded at 38 North Studios, and produced by Jim Ebert who described the musical group as “Foo Fighters meets Allman Brothers”. Mixed by Jeff Juliano at The Shed. “Tomorrow” features the familiar funky rhythm section with a new slide guitar feel. Joe Bonamassa like “Memphis” so much that he put it on his “Top Shelf Americana” playlist! Our latest tune “River Runs Dry” features killer guitar and keys with Joe Marcinek and Ryan Gregg rocking out, respectively. We hope you enjoy our original music and would love to see you at one of the many upcoming shows!
